Drooping Pothos? 48-Hour Revival Plan (U.S. Apartment Guide)
60-Second Diagnosis
- Soil bone dry, leaves limp: Severe underwatering. Soak the pot for 30 min in a bucket.
- Soil soggy, leaves yellow + limp: Overwatering or root rot. Unpot and check roots.
- Soil OK but leaves still droopy: Temperature shock or sudden draft. Move plant.
The Bucket Soak (For Underwatering)
Fill a bucket with room-temperature water. Submerge the pot until the soil line is just below the water. Leave 25–30 minutes. Lift out, drain completely. Most underwatered pothos perk up within 4–6 hours.
Next 48 Hours
Place in bright indirect light. Don't fertilize. Don't repot. Just water on a consistent schedule (every 7–10 days for typical U.S. apartments). New growth should resume within 2 weeks.
Frequently asked questions
Can a fully limp pothos still be saved?
Yes — pothos are remarkably resilient. Even fully limp vines usually recover within 24–48 hours after a deep soak, as long as the roots are still alive.
Should I cut the drooping vines?
Not until you've tried the revival. If the vines stay limp after 72 hours, then cut them back to the closest healthy node and propagate.
